Chlorinated Solvent Release – Investigation and Remediation
A chemical products distributor contracted Olympus to provide groundwater monitoring, site assessment, and soil and groundwater remediation services for chlorinated solvents that had been inadvertently released from underground product storage tanks. Monitoring indicated that groundwater had been adversely impacted and a dissolved chlorinated solvent plume was migrating offsite. Olympus initiated additional groundwater investigative activity that included soil boring with split spoon soil sampling and HydroPunch groundwater sampling. Olympus identified a multi-facies aquifer system at the site and completed multi-level monitoring wells to monitor the different aquifer facies. The identification of an additional release of chlorinated solvents from a neighboring chemical products distributor further complicated the investigation. Olympus designed, installed, and operated a soil vapor extraction system and a shallow groundwater recovery well at the facility.
