Olympus Technical Services Brings Drilling Capabilities to Boise Office

Environmental and Geotechnical Drilling Services to Start May 2
BOISE, Idaho – Olympus Technical Services, Inc., a leading provider of environmental drilling and subsurface sampling services in Montana, has procured another combination drill rig and will have a geologist-led drilling crew based in Boise beginning May 2.
“We’ve been receiving a lot of inquiries about our environmental drilling services in the Idaho market lately, but for smaller jobs, it didn’t make sense for us to mobilize our rig from Billings,” said Sean Ronan, manager of Olympus’ Boise office. “Having a drilling crew based right here in Boise makes the logistics a lot easier and will reduce the cost for our clients.”
Olympus has been offering environmental drilling and subsurface sampling services from their Billings, Montana office for the past decade.
As an environmental remediation and consulting company, Olympus does a lot of subsurface sampling and installation of monitoring wells on their own projects, so the employee-owners decided in 2012 that it made sense to own their own drilling equipment. The drilling crew has been busy ever since, as demand has been high from engineering firms and other environmental consultants with similar needs.
Direct push technology for fast and efficient results
Both of Olympus’ drill rigs are Geoprobe 78 Series models. Geoprobe is the originator of direct push technology, which uses a percussion hammer and vehicle weight to push tools and sensors into the subsurface. Direct push technology offers several advantages over traditional drill rigs. It pushes through soil twice as fast and generates a fraction of the drill cuttings. The smaller size and maneuverability of Olympus’ direct-push drill rigs also makes mobilization faster and more economical and means that the rigs can fit in places the big drill rigs cannot.
In addition to the advantages offered by Geoprobe equipment, Olympus drilling crews are run by trained geologists, so they are not just drilling holes. They know what they are looking at and what to be looking for. Olympus’ crew in Boise will be run by Douglas McGregor, a native of Twin Falls, Idaho, and a graduate of Idaho State University. McGregor has an associate degree in agricultural business and a BA in geology. He has been working with Olympus since last spring and is currently training with the Olympus drilling crew in Billings.
