Olympus responded to a freight train derailment in which two tanker cars derailed into Whitefish Lake, releasing approximately 70,000 gallons of diesel fuel. Olympus responded within two hours from our Helena, Montana office and chartered a plane to bring additional personnel and equipment from Seattle, Washington. There was no road access to the spill site so all equipment was mobilized utilizing watercraft. Olympus and a team of divers implemented containment measures, began the collection and recovery processes, transferred diesel fuel remaining in the tank cars into empty tank cars, and disposed of contaminated debris and equipment. Once the collection and recovery processes were completed, Olympus implemented lakeshore monitoring and remediation programs.
