Olympus completed a preliminary assessment of the feasibility of using an operating gold mine pit that is going into closure as a potential repository site for regional historical mine waste for the Montana Department of Environmental Quality Mine Waste Cleanup Bureau and the US Forest Service. Project work included a fatal-flaw analysis, preliminary repository engineering design, cost evaluation, and hydrogeologic assessment of the pit to evaluate its feasibility as a repository for mine/mill wastes. The repository could potentially contain more than two million cubic yards of mine/mill waste and would be operated over a period of 10 or more years. A summary report was prepared and the results presented at a meeting with Mine Waste Cleanup Bureau and Forest Service representatives. Graphics were prepared and technical support provided to Mine Waste Cleanup Bureau for their public meetings.
